RESOLUTION
As a fellow Dublin, Ohio-based organization, IGS Solar approached the Rec Center with an onsite generation solution, using a combined heat & power (CHP) system. By generating power near the point of consumption, capturing waste heat, and taking advantage of renewable resources, CHP uses energy in a smarter, more sustainable way. Using one fuel source (natural gas), electricity and thermal energy are generated at the same time.
The 248 kW system that was installed meets 60% of the facility’s electrical demand and provides hot water and heating for the indoor pools, using waste heat from the engine. The system is also twice as efficient as traditional power generation, and it delivers backup power during outages.
