The temperatures are dropping as winter comes closer. And while you may be stock piling sweaters, getting all of your cold weather gear out of storage, and budgeting for the holiday season, there are thousands of families across the country who are scrambling to brace for the colder temperatures.

1 in 5 children in the United States are growing up in poverty.

The need in our communities is great. In the U.S., more than 15,000,000 children are growing up in poverty. Public school teachers overwhelmingly report that many of their students lack proper warm winter clothing. In fact, 1 in 3 teachers have actually purchased coats, mittens, and other warm clothing for their students.

Children in coats

Founded in 1998, Operation Warm is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides brand new winter coats to children in need across the U.S. The organization donates hundreds of thousands of new coats each year and has proudly gifted its 2 millionth coat this year. While keeping children warm thr ough the winter is its main goal, Operation Warm believes that a brand new coat can improve self-confidence, peer acceptance, school attendance, and overall wellness.

Together, we keep more children warm.

Since 2014, IGS Energy has partnered with Operation Warm for the Bundle Up Campaign. When IGS Energy customers Bundle Up their IGS Energy products, IGS donates a new coat to a child. IGS Energy donated $20,000 in 2014 and $30,000 in 2015 to Operation Warm – a grand total of 2,778 new coats.
